Working Mum
I’ve just read a weblog written in Javanese, which very touches my heart. It’s about a feeling from a working mother (read: parents) for her children, for her family.
She regrets that they don’t have much time to be together as a family. When parents go to work, their children go to school. When they’ve home already, everybody feels tired or there are many assignments to do. So when will they talk each other?
I’ve been through this moment and yes, I regret it. I believe there is a piece of regret-ness on every parent’s heart about this. Especially mums.
If they are regretting, so WHY?
Well, everybody has an answer. However, put it simple: money. In this consumerism world, everything needs money. Especially in a big city as Jakarta which consumerism and hedonism largely grew. Then how the family could survive if there is not enough money (read: always) for health, education, even for everyday life?
I surely believe that we could understand how hard the decision to be a working mum is been taken.
If I as a kid could suggest simple-childish solutions, “…well, it is a good idea to have a home office, or a home based industry, or you could cut your working time or something like that, Mum. Anything could go as long as I could see you every time I back from school, and asking you about my math homework, and inform you my last science exam mark, and I got to tell you there is a oh-so-good looking boy who stare at me every time I look at him!”
It sounds easy? Well.. it depends how you (as parents) look at it. However, every family is different in problems, in culture, in everything. Yet in my opinion, further decision should involve all family members to discuss. It is no other else than educating your kids about new word called responsibility. With putting our believes in God’s hands, every problems will be solved.(Amin).
